What is Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)?

EFT is an evidence based energy psychology process that helps to clear blocks in our energy system affecting our mental, emotional and spiritual health. According to the founder of EFT, Gary Greg; “EFT … involved stimulating the acupuncture meridians while tapping on them with the fingertips … that’s why it is often called “Tapping.

How can Emotional Freedom Technique help me?

EFT, or Tapping, can help by clearing blocks in your energy system. These blocks may cause anxiety, negative thought processes, reduced motivation,  somatic symptoms, procrastination, confusion, difficulty making decisions, and much more.

The following research provides evidence of the growing research of efficacy of EFT tapping:Assessment of the Emotional Freedom Technique: An Alternative Treatment for FearDoes EFT Really Work? Is It Evidence Based?

How many sessions will I need?

At least one session is needed to discuss the issue and present the technique. As with any other modality, the duration depends on many factors. At times you can see progress in as little as 3-6 sessions, or more, depending on the issue being addressed, the severity of the symptoms, and readiness.

How will I know if it works?

Tapping essentially helps to reduce our emotional charge around the issue we are presenting. It may also help with shifting how we think about, and therefore experience, the events of our lives. If working on physical pain we may have a reduction in physical symptoms. If working on anxiety or fear, we may feel calmer and more empowered.Emotional shifts and cognitive shifts (such as the quality of your thoughts) can be obvious and clear, or subtle with shifts in other aspects of life. I often get responses such as “I feel calmer”, or “it [the issue] does not seem like a big deal any more”.

Is this a technique that I can use on my own as a self help tool?

The simple answer is yes, absolutely. it is a safe and effective coping and clearing strategy. Tapping is easy to learn and easy to use on your own. That being said, we are often faced with blind spots and “aspects” that benefit from the support of a practitioner. For more information, or to see if EFT tapping can be beneficial for you,  please schedule a free 15 min consultation.
